The Ultimate Superhero
Growing up, I loved comic books. I was especially a fan of Batman, the winged protector of Gotham. There was no villain he couldn’t eventually outsmart. As a little kid, that’s who I wanted to be one day–the keeper of justice in a world full of bad guys.
Growing up, I loved comic books. I was especially a fan of Batman, the winged protector of Gotham. There was no villain he couldn’t eventually outsmart. As a little kid, that’s who I wanted to be one day–the keeper of justice in a world full of bad guys.
But the problem with those comic books was that they didn’t contain any truth. They were fantasies about made-up characters who, in the end, held no real power and served only as a form of entertainment.
But biblical truth is something completely different. It is REAL. It is the foundation on which we build our lives and hope on the faith that serves as an anchor for our souls.
That’s why the Story of Scripture initiative of Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) decided to launch a series of comic books to tell biblical truth to a generation of young people who may never crack open the Bible.
We admit it. It may not make sense that a seminary like DTS would get into the world of Christian comic books. But here’s the reality. Young people today are questioning their faith. They are not adopting the beliefs that we as parents and grandparents have tried to pass onto them.
In addition, they aren’t engaging in faith the way our generation did. Social media now directs their spiritual thinking, and the opinion of the masses often has more sway over them than the values of their families.
It begs the question, “How do we reach them where they are?” So DTS decided to tell biblical truth in a format that has become pervasive in our culture. Superhero movies, comic books, paraphernalia, and merchandise dominate the landscape of today’s youth culture.
But we want to win the youth culture to Christ, so we’ve taken God’s Word, and illustrated the stories in a way that engages the younger generation in a way that cuts straight to their hearts and minds.
We invite you to check out our first complete series on the life of Abraham. See how the promise made to Abraham still applies today to you, your children, and your grandchildren. You may find this incredible series to be the tool that opens their eyes to Jesus, the superhero who carried a cross instead of wearing a mask.
